Parts of the model have disappeared but are still there in the background

Hi All,

I have a model with existing exterior walls (drawn as existing) and parts of the building for demolition (drawn as demo). They were visible, and I could toggle with the layer to turn them on and off. Now, despite being turned on and using the “see all” option, I can’t see all. They appear in the tags, but I cannot get them displayed. The demo items no longer show up in the estimate, but they did.

The walls seemed to have disappeared when I was working on the estimate with the demo and existing layers turned off.

Any ideas how to get them back?

Thanks, Gareth.

To follow up on my last thread, I was able to locate all the missing items by using the hidden objects tool. I then had to go into each item or group untill individually selected and then toggle on view, or in the case of locked items, I needed to unlock first, then toggle on then re-lock.

I don’t know what happened to cause this, but I discovered it happened with demo items, existing items, and new build items.

Anyway, they are all back now in sight and within the estimate.

Gareth.

Hi @Gareth
If any item is placed when demolition is ticked, it will only show when you use the demolition scenes.

Essentially, it changes the Tag (Layer) on which it is drawn. Demolition items will show up in the BOQ under demo.
I suggest clicking “See all” :see_all: it is the fastest way to view everything in the model. Then, when you see it, select it and go to entity info to see what Tag (Layer it’s on inside Sketchup)
Does that answer your question?

Hi Andrew,

Yeah, I tried the see-all and various other methods, but nothing showed up. It also happened with new items that were not on the demo layer. I eventually found them in the model, but to locate items, I needed to use hidden objects, then go into that identified group, then again drill deeper until I got the toggle button to show up, and then turn them back on. Everything was in the BOQ; it was just not visible as part of the model.

My screenshot is one example of new joist hangers that disappeared. I don’t know what I did, but it hasn’t happened again.

On a separate note, have you created a video of tags, cost codes, and naming nomenclature? We are rebuilding our cost codes, and I am unclear about what connection they have with the Tags created in plusspec. Also, how do we change the naming of tags? For instance, fix out. Can we change that? I added this question to a recent post in the forum on costcodes

Thanks,

Gareth.

Hi Garath, as far as I am aware, PlusSpec will not hide geometry or Components that need to be shown under any circumstances yet I have been known to be wrong before. Items can have two tags: The base geometry tag and the encasing group Tag. This enables you to turn off items individually or as a group.
You can see this by opening the tags box and creating something that is to be demolished, existing, or new.

Everything was in the BOQ; it was just not visible as part of the model.

The best way would have been to go to the BOQ and click the item in Edit See More section and click the Blue text as it will navigate you to that item

In saying this, :scene_tool: Scenes will hide geometry according to the scene types you create and for several reasons. When submitting a plan for renovation to the council, you will want to have the proposed plan and a demolition plan set.

To test this:

  1. Draw a Post/Column :post_tool:
  2. Tick Existing and draw another Post/Column
  3. Tick Demolition and draw another Post/Column
  4. Go to the scene tool :scene_tool:, scroll down to the bottom, and tick “Include Demolition Scenes”
  5. Click on Floor Plan 1, and you will notice there are no demolition items shown
  6. Click on Demolition Plan 1 (on the far right), and you will notice the demolition column is Red, the new column is white, and the existing column is grey. We colour-coded geometry so you can see what is what without having to guess. However, the See all :see_all: button will show all so I am not exactly sure why you are experiencing this but it would be good to know.

“Include Demolition Scenes” and then click on Floor plan 1 and Demo Floor Plan 1

This is another topic. If you have another question, it is best to create another topic, as it makes it easier for others to find information.
The item codes are as you’d like them to be, and you can do a BOQ by Item Code/cost code, tag, category, or Level.
To do this, go to your takeoff preferences and click the drop-down next to “Choose grouping”

Some users like the takeoff to read by cost code, as it is a custom language everyone in the business understands. I suggest you play around with it before recreating all of your cost codes.
I’ll make a video when I get a moment.

The only issue I’ve run into with cost codes is the number of characters you add as I’m pretty sure Xero has a charterer limit which I think is 50 characters.
