Issues with undo or command / control Z

I went looking for this and I am surprised I could not find people talking about this.

I have two wall types in a house - one that is shou sugi ban cedar and one hardie board - both lightweight multiskin. The cedar walls are part of a gable roof volume, the hardie part of a flat roof parapet volume.

I wanted to drop the cladding of all walls to hide the floor system below the wall so I selected all the walls to edit them and it changed all the walls to shou sugi ban and adjusted the heights and roof connection shape of the hardie walls to be gable end walls. No big deal, right? I just undo and try a different approach. Because of the complex scripts plus spec is running, sketchup’s command z doesnt work so the changes I just made were destructive. I cannot undo that command and try again, I have to rebuild everything.

This would be a major vulnerability in an architecture firm with large complex projects. What are people’s solutions here?

Hi user22,

Currently we recommend to not undo steps using Ctrl + Z (or equivilent) & to always readjust the geometry using one of our tools to save any issues than may occur (especially when editing walls). There are instances where undoing is possible, but rule of thumb is to use a tool (unless you know the point to undo till).

However, I’ll take it back to the development team for further discussion.

Good to know Grant. Yeah, this is a tough one because for a staff member doing production modeling/drafting/design work, to undo an adjustment or error with ctrl z is one click, but to have to readjust geometry with a PS tool involves many clicks and typing in parameters. That takes far longer and slows down the flow of a staff member.
