Advanced Framing

I’m doing a takeoff using Advanced framing and the order Length is coming in longer than the optimal length.

The Max length of dimensional Lumber that can be bought in USA is 16’ can the programers fix the problem where all 2x material that is made from pine, spruce or douglas fir, southern Pine, redwood, or pressure Treated wood is no longer than 16’ ?

Another issue is in USA we have precut studs for our walls like 92 5/8" and 104 5/8. The material list order lengths are calling out 8’ and 10’ on the order lengths. Do you have precut studs in Australia and if so how are you dealing with this. I would welcome any and all answers.

Hi Steve_B,

This is because there’s an option in the Optimal Length list that is larger than 16’. If you update the list so that the largest length available is 16 is should work as intended. Here are the steps to manage the options in this list.

  1. Click on the Export Order Lengths button & save the file somewhere on your computer. Tip: I’d recommend your desktop or somewhere easy to find.
  2. Open the file in a program that can edit spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, etc.).
  3. Remove the order lengths you don’t need or want & save the file.
  4. Click on the Import Order Lengths button & locate the file on your computer to import it.
  5. The list should now be updated with your new optimal lengths.

How ‘Order Length’ Works
Any ‘Actual Length’ that is less than the specified ‘Optimal Length’ should round up to the next length available in the order lengths list. The text will be black when this is true.

If an ‘Actual Length’ is smaller than the specified ‘Min Length’, it should calculate how many optimal lengths will need to be ordered for by using the ‘Qty’ & ‘Actual Length’ values. The text will be purple when this is true.

If an ‘Actual Length’ is greater than the specified ‘Optimal Length’, the ‘Order Length’ should display the the ‘Qty’ & ‘Actual Length’ of that instance (e.g. 4@9’). The text will be red when this is true.

Precut Studs
I don’t know much about precut studs here in Australia but @Andrew may be able to provide some info on it.
